The University of Groningen, founded in 1614, now has over 21,000 students and 500 academic staff. The Department of Computer Science, which is part of the Johann Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science, comprises about 15 academic staff and 35 PhD students and postdocs with a very international profile. The department has many international research collaborations and has signed a substantial number of Erasmus agreements for the training of graduate students.
The Scientific Visualization and Computer Graphics (SVCG) group carries out research in the area of scientific, information and software visualization, multiscale shape analysis, illustrative computer graphics, innovative interfaces using large displays. It has extensive experience in general GPU programming in such diverse directions as fluid flow computation, level set models and wavelet analysis. It applies its research to fundamental and practical problems from the life sciences, astronomy, large-scale software engineering. The group participates in a large number of national and EU-funded projects.
