The BioComputing Competence Centre (B3C) born in 1999 from the collaboration between the Laboratorio di Tecnologia Medica of Istituti Ortopedici Rizzoli, the supercomputing and visualisation group of CINECA, and the BioEngineering group of Bologna University with the aim to:
Promote and organise research activities in the field of informatics applied to biomedical sciences
Collect and optimise the financial resources needed to carry on research project in biomedicine
Transfer the technological innovation from research to clinical practice and biomedical industry
The results obtained by the centre in the first 5 years of activity went well
beyond expectations: seven projects financed by the European Community on 10
presented. The projects promoted by B3C were receiving 4,800,000 Euro of financing
from the EC in fifth framework (2001-2004).
At the end of 2004, the profile
more and more commercial imposed a statutory re-organisation and B3C became the
biomedical division of SCS.
